Handmade porcelain botanicals

The Artist

Chloë spent much of her childhood in her mother’s ceramics studio, amongst the distinctive wild African trees and grasses in Zimbabwe. Her mother’s meticulous methodology inspired her from an early age. Her father, an indigenous plant enthusiast, cultivated in her a deep interest in the plant world and she went on to study a degree in botany.

A fascination with the intricate beauty of life forms brought her back to the ceramics studio.

Small porcelain discs became canvases for a series of botanical imprints, then turned into pendants.

Over the years Chloë has travelled Southern Africa with her porcelain clay and tools, creating jewellery collections, from the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe, to the Cape Fynbos region in South Africa.

Chloë’s work is an ode to biodiversity. Each piece is consciously made by hand. Her craftsmanship links scientific observation and artistic expression, placing the allure of the botanical world in the spotlight. Each tiny artwork is an every day reminder of the beauty and perfection of the natural world.

Porcelain clay is carefully imprinted with findings from nature, for example leaves, feathers and seashells. Colour is applied and each piece is carefully refined by hand before being fired in a kiln. Each piece is unique, no two pendants are exactly alike.
